Tank Street Bridge in Brisbane will be the first large scale tensegrity bridge, tensegrity structures are a special category of cable structures, which are defined as systems composed of compression components inside of a continuum of tension components in a stable self-stressed state. This lightweight structures offer higher resistance than other systems of the same weight. The bridge is part of the City Centre Master Plan 2006, it will link the city center to South Brisbane, the construction is expected to be completed by September 2009. Source
The renders look so amazing, but the bridge itself so far looks so much larger and a lot less elegant…hopefully it all comes together nicely and proves me wrong.
And I know some of the info is from ArchDaily, but Baulderstone Hornibrook Queensland are actually the builders.
