Some background knowledge about the designer: Christoph Rumpf, aged only 25, is still studying at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna and has been awarded with the “Grand Prix du Jury Premiére Vision” during the 34th International Festival of Fashion, Photography and Fashion Accessories in Hyéres. As we know from previous seasons, the winner of this programme usually gets the chance to be invited and supported by Mercedes- Benz to showcase his/her collections during Mercedes- Benz Fashion Week Berlin.
For his Spring/ Summer 2020 collection, Christoph Rumpf chooses a wide range of inspirations: it is ranging from international cultures to Indian fabrics, to the opulence of Arab monarchs and spanish traditional dresses of the 17th century. It is exactly this background and vivid mix and match that makes this collection so inspring to observe. Surreal visions are creatively blurred with real ones. Or, to say it more precisely: everything you can imagine, becomes real! It may be the vintage- inspired materials, the cuts or the detail- awareness- the only fact we know for sure is, these looks make you stand out from any crowd.
The designer has, on top of that, a preference for rich nuances, such as gold. Jewellery appliqués underline the sophisticated character of these outfits and they can be found in a plenty of versions.
Detail- awareness plays a central role in this line, you can witness it in asymmetric cuts, cut- outs, large statement jewellery and oversized details, such as sleeves. It feels like a journey through exotic destinations. Worth of mentioning is also the fact his womenswear pieces always stay extremely sophisticated, seductive, smooth. For those of you who follow his career might know Christoph Rumpf is usually known for his menswear, he just created six womenswear looks to present during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin. Oversized accents are used in a highly charming way and are, furthermore, true eye-catchers.
Another aspect that plays a major role in his creations is sustainability. Most of the patterns he uses are bought from flea markets. Therefore, old materials get a new meaning and use. Inspiring! Some pieces remind us of carpet- pattern or any vintage- inspired pick. Unique! Gender lines are creatively blurred, for instance men are wearing big, golden earrings.
With Christoph Rumpf as kick off, we are looking forward for an exciting week of shows and inspirations ahead!
