Fashion photographer Brigitte Niedermair captured Dior‘s Cruise 2020 campaign featuring Adesuwa Aighewi, Ana Barbosa, Jiali Zhao, and Ruth Bell. In charge of styling was Isabelle Kountoure, with casting direction from Michelle Lee, and makeup by beauty artist Fred Farrugia.
“Verging on monochromatic, each shot mutates into a hypnotic painting that expresses the powerful nature of the silhouettes. Dior’s codes, revisited via various collaborations, seem to fuse with the décor in order to better reveal their story and create a collective cultural heritage. The iconic Bar suit is dressed in wax fabric; the toile de Jouy is reinvented as a wild natural landscape, and the camouflage motif mixes with the signature Dior Oblique canvas: a fascinating, modern journey evoking the hybrid collective imaginations of the House and Africa.
For this collection, Maria Grazia Chiuri extended an invitation to Grace Wales Bonner, the English designer of Jamaican origin; the African-American artist Mickalene Thomas, the Moroccan women’s association Sumano and the Burkinabe couturier Pathé’O. Each of them created exclusive pieces.“
