Fall dates for New York Fashion Week are confirmed with shows starting on Wednesday, September 8th, and wrapping up on Sunday, September 12th. The event is expected to mark the biggest return to in-person shows for the Fashion Weeks globally, following the ongoing massive vaccination efforts in the United States. The shows are expected to follow the New York State Health Guidelines. Nevertheless the brands are still to engage international press and buyer audience with digital collection presentations.
The New York Fashion Week in September is backed this time by the Met Gala for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute exhibition “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion”. The Met Gala is scheduled for the last day of the fashion shows. Steven Kolb, CEO of the CFDA shares: “With current signs of progress in the pace of vaccinations and the strategic, gradual reopening and tangible reawakening of New York City, we look forward to a strong fashion season that celebrates the best of American fashion in both physical and digital presentation formats”.
Together, our talent and united front give American fashion its unique character and strength. – Tom Ford
CFDA Chairman Tom Ford in an open letter to press members also shared his hopes for American fashion as well as the future of New York Fashion Week. “ New York Fashion Week is always a celebration of American fashion, but this will take on a whole new meaning in September. After two challenging seasons with no in-person gatherings, we anticipate a signi?cant return to live shows. This season’s shows are an opportunity to reaffirm the resilience and independence of American fashion and New York City as a global fashion force. The Met Gala for the Costume Institute exhibition “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” will close New York Fashion Week, further cementing this moment for our industry, and I am excited to be an Honorary Chair of the Bene?t. I started my career on Seventh Avenue and while I spent most of my working life in Europe, I am incredibly proud to be an American designer and a part of our community and New York Fashion Week,” adds Mr Ford in his announcement.
New York Fashion Week in addition to the recent Thom Browne announcement also finds Tom Ford returning to the schedule. “New York Fashion Week is set from Wednesday, September 8 to Sunday, September 12. The talent lineup will be strong with designers returning to the week and, in some cases, to New York. I look forward to presenting my Spring 2022 collection during the week,” notes Tom Ford. “Together, our talent and united front give American fashion its unique character and strength,” ending his letter to press members with this hopeful message.
