Most women feel perplexed when it comes to choosing between hair removal methods. Waxing, shaving and sugaring are among the popular options with each of them having its own set of pros and cons. Let us take a closer look at what each of them has on offer to help you decide which one is best suited for you. So, let’s get started!
Waxing
Waxing is one of the most popular methods of removing unwanted hair. However, it does not suit everyone because of the presence of chemical additives such as perfumes, colorants and acids in the wax. Many women especially those with sensitive skin experience red bumps after undergoing waxing. It may also cause irritation and redness. The procedure is painful and causes moderate to severe pain. Moreover, since wax needs to be heated there are chances of incurring burns. Since it pulls the hair from roots, it usually lasts for 3 to 4 weeks. So, you do not require carrying out the procedure frequently. However, you need to wait for your hair to grow ¼” – ½” before waxing.
Carrying out this procedure at home can be quite a hassle. It is best to get it done by a professional.
Sugaring
Sugaring is one of the oldest methods of removing unwanted hair and has lately been gaining immense popularity. This is mainly because sugaring wax is prepared with organic ingredients such as lemon, sugar and water and is thus soothing to the skin. It does not cause any harmful side effects even for those with sensitive skin. Minimal bumps and irritation is reported in rare cases. Just like waxing, this method also removes the hair from the roots and leaves the skin hairless for 3-4 weeks. However, it is less painful compared to waxing. The procedure causes low to moderate pain. Since sugaring paste is applied warm and not hot so there is no chance of incurring burns. Besides, it reduces hair growth over time which is a great plus.
Another advantage of sugaring is that it can easily be conducted at home.
Shaving
Hair can be removed quickly and easily with this method. Shaving can be completed in a matter of minutes. Moreover, one doesn’t have to wait for the hair to grow to a certain length before removing it. These are a few reasons why many women prefer this method. However, shaving has its downside too. One of the main disadvantages is that it leads to hard growth. Secondly, it needs to be conducted frequently as the hair grows back within a day or two. Besides, there is risk of incurring cuts and bruises.
Since hair removal is a regular activity, it is imperative to choose a method that is gentle on the skin and does not cause any harm in the long run. Sugaring thus proves to be a good option. It is soft on the skin, can easily be carried out at home and reduces the hair growth substantially over the time.
