Fashion house NEIL BARRETT presented their Fall Winter 2022.23 Menswear Collection, that explores history of uniforms, with a digital show on Monday, January 17th, as part of the ongoing Milan Fashion Week. The collection was inspired by the designer’s family heritage as military tailors, but also by the different kinds of uniforms such as workwear, sportswear, the tailored suit, a uniform of evening elegance. It explores the meaning of uniforms, that express both identity and – conversely – individuality, and also bring practicality. For the season, Neil Barrett combined influences from military, airforce and naval uniforms.
FALL WINTER 2022.23 MENSWEAR COLLECTIONS
“The archetypes of each are explored: wide-cut naval trousers, fisherman’s sweaters and pea-coats; field-jackets, great-coats, padded bombers in collaboration with Alpha Industries, and combat boots; worker’s jackets and padded down jackets; the satin-revered tuxedo. They are proposed in a focussed palette of navies and blues, black, warm white and an energetic jolt of pink. Outfits combine different form languages, finding new and unexpected combination – devising a new uniform for today’s man. The raiments of a laced naval collar, worn beneath a jean jacket; combat boots with quilted nylon shorts; a pea-coat with matching trousers, as an unexpected gesture to suiting. These languages are sometimes challenged, contradicted: the evening cummerbund is reinvented as a modern belt-bag, in nylon or corduroy, fusing its former elegance with a new contemporary pragmatism.” – from Neil Barrett
