Fashion house SIMON CRACKER presented the Poor Couture Spring Summer 2023 Collection, inspired by the need of looking at high fashion from another point of view. The brand has already in his DNA the idea of uniqueness and hand-working, that needs time and care. The idea of ‘poor couture’ takes life with waste materials and upcycled clothes, that return to the bodies in a nice and spectacular way. There is no nostalgy, but il wish of using the past for “braking” with a present that doesn’t surprise us.
COUTURE COLLECTIONS
The word “couture” brings in mind a world of luxury clothes, hand and custom made, created with precious fabrics, dense embroideries, flakes, flounces or cuts apparently easy but realized with laborious technics that request time and practice, like bias cuts or moulage. The couture contains in itself the true power of fashion, the one that make people dream and wish in a better world through clothes. Today a lot of it seems obsolete, in a world that consume so fast, where the value of clothes is buried under a mountain of sweatshirts, sneakers and fake “coolness”. – from Simon Cracker
The thought of couture as an ancient practice is subverted: bedspreads become folds skirts, curtain hooks become gorget, a recycled denim coordinate can be worn in a Cinderella ball, the gauze silk stripes (production waste) are molding on the body thanks to the silicon and an old parachute is transformed into a long tail bride dress. Jewelry and decoration are now thimbles and safety pins: like so, punk and tailoring find the way to communicate. – from Simon Cracker
