The fifth edition of the ‘202030 – The Berlin Fashion Summit‘, took place from January 18th to 19th, 2023 in Berlin and brought once more a growing sustainable fashion community together. It was organized by studio MM04 in cooperation with the ‘Beneficial Design Institute‘ and funded by the Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises. The event was mainly aimed at representatives of the fashion industry and value chains, however it was also open to young talents and students. Moreover it gave designers, labels and pioneers that are very much into sustainable topics a platform to be seen and heard. In addition to that, they could take action and network.
This season, 45 international brands and speakers, strong partners and a rising numbers of visitors focused on sustainability. How can fashion business make a positive impact and contribute to transformation? To discuss this question, both challenges the fashion industry is facing and possible solutions on a corporate and cultural level were declared. As location, the entrance area of the PREMIUM and SEEK tradeshows at the Berlin Exhibition Grounds, was chosen.
The ‘Berlin Fashion Summit‘ that had the motto ‘Active Alliances for Positive Fashion‘ spoke about sustainability through the topics of collaboration, transformation and regeneration with the consideration of economic, cultural and ecological action. Changemakers shared solutions, inspiring visions and practices that can be already applied today. Futhermore it gave the audience hope that Berlin is the place where sustainable fashion concepts can have a concrete, global influence.

The first day of the summit contained of a live conference program on January 18th, where the audience could witness a day of presentations and interviews. The second day was the Community Day where the guests could attend masterclasses, workshops, and a final closing barcamp. Under the motto ‘Connecting Progressive Minds‘, the sustainable fashion community got connected. The main topics of the first day of the event were ‘Regenerative Business‘ and ‘Regenerative Culture‘, and how these two are closely connected to each other. For that purpose, experts from a wide range of fields, for instance retail, material production, supply chain, brand management, and policy came together to find solutions for more sustainable goals. The Community Day dealt with topics related to regenerative strategies, and its aim was to connect the industry players who are leading the movement of implementation. Other sessions included expert leaderships with 202030 Summit partners.
As there was a significant increase of visitors noticed this season, the organizers could look back to a successful event.
