According to Kim Kardashian‘s recent trip to Japan, it appears she likes Japanese architecture and that she recently visited the nation to meet with Tadao Ando. The specifics of the private mansion that Ando is creating for Kardashian in the Palm Springs region were originally revealed by Vogue Magazine last year. Kardashian hinted in her post that work on it will start soon, but other than presenting what appears to be a rendering of a grey cast concrete building that resembled a contemporary art museum more than a house, she provided little further design information. Now, Kardashian described how she hired architects to design a “zen” mansion in Palm Springs and a lakeside lodge in a recent interview with Vogue. Ando, the winner of the Pritzker Architecture Prize, is creating a two-story mansion with a bent triangular footprint, while Kengo Kuma is reportedly creating a “glass-and-wood lake house” where Kardashian says she plans to celebrate the Fourth of July and spent the Independence Days with her family. Over the years, Ando has created various celebrity homes, including Kanye West’s $57.3 million post-divorce splurge Malibu mansion, as well as a $75 million compound for fashion designer Tom Ford.

Met with the master himself, Tadao Ando to review and discuss a dream project we have been working on for the past two years. I visited his office in Japan so that we could make the finishing touches before we break ground. So deeply honored and incredibly humbled to have the opportunity to work with him and finally see this special project come to life. – Kim Kardashian
