Vietnamese American Fashion Designer Peter Do has been appointed as the new creative director of Helmut Lang, the brand announced yesterday. While the speculations about Do’s appointment have been circulating for months, the brand has finally confirmed the news and Do’s tenure is set to commence from next Monday, May 15.
Renowned for his impeccable tailoring and innate sense of cool, Peter Do will oversee all creative responsibilities for women’s and men’s collections, while his debut collection for the brand, Spring Summer 2024, will be presented during New York Fashion Week in September.
No one embodied radical thinking more definitely than Helmut Lang. It is my deep honor to be entrusted with ushering in the next chapter of Helmut Lang’s legacy.
– said Peter Do in a statement.
Peter Do was born in Bien Hoa, Vietnam, and moved to the suburbs of Philadelphia when he was just 14 years old. He received the LVMH Graduate Prize in 2014 after graduating from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, where he had previously pursued studies in fashion design. His first job was at the ready-to-wear atelier at Celine, where he worked under the direction of the renowned Phoebe Philo. After that, he went to work with Derek Lam. In 2018, he launched his eponymous label.
I am excited to learn from the foundations this house stands on and to continue creating new, energetic clothes that inspire people to challenge their understanding of what is possible when it comes to expressing their individuality.
– Peter Do added.
Peter will be based in the Helmut Lang design studio located at Fast Retailing’s Design and Innovation Center in New York City and will report to Helmut Lang’s Chief Executive Officer, Dinesh Tandon.
