Australian fashion house ZIMMERMANN unveiled its Resort 2024 Ready-To-Wear collection, inspired by the allure and romantic enchantment of 1950s local dance halls, blending the season’s designs and prints with a modern sensibility. The collection, appropriately titled “Matchmaker,” emanates vitality, youthful vigor, and a touch of edginess. Barkcloth floral designs and matching checkered sets take center stage, with jeweled rolled sleeve shirts and micro-shorts evoking Zimmermann‘s whimsical personality. Pencil skirts and exaggerated hip shapes exude ultra-femininity when paired with midriff-length cashmere sweaters.. Boxy denim separates, such as a cropped jacket and barrel leg jeans, as well as an unwashed blue boiler suit, on the other hand, have a more raw look. Mirrored and crystal-encrusted cat-eye sunglasses accentuate the 1950s influences.
Old photos of 50s dance halls were the starting point for our Resort season. There’s an optimism and exuberance that came through from our references – people dancing, smiling, laughing, with this wonderful sense of escapism. I loved the movement of the big skirt twirling, the toughness of the boyish rolled sleeves, the clashes of style. I read a great piece about the dance hall being the place that so many people of the era found love. The local hall – an exciting, almost rebellious place that someone could express themselves and connect – the matchmaker of the time. – Nicky Zimmermann, Creative Director.
Bandana placement prints bring forth a range of signature party pieces that are designed for pure enjoyment. Full circle skirts with petticoats meet vest-shaped bodices tied in lovely bows with rope belts. Colors in skirt-suits are skilfully mixed and matched from the jacket to the shoes. The collection’s richness and opulence are enhanced by lemon sorbet velvet, 3D sculptural flowers, delicate paper daisy adornments, and tightly twirling ruffles. Cloud skirts with corset waists and low tank scoop necklines feature Zimmermann‘s distinctive florals.
Hints of lingerie-inspired fashion emerge amidst masculine influences. Tuxedo styles add a feeling of refined dress codes to the assortment. Exaggerated sculptural pieces add a whimsical feminine touch, while seductive leopard prints make surprising cameos in unusual color palettes. Monotone prints abstract jazz motifs and symbols, while tambourines appear on ear cuffs and jewelry charms. Jeweled headbands and dazzling flats catch the light as they move over the dance floor, adding an extra touch of glamour to the ensembles.
