Chanel has teamed up with Barbie, one of the world’s most iconic figures, for this extraordinary movie production. “Barbie,” stars the talented and Oscar-nominated Margot Robbie, who also happens to be a global ambassador for Chanel. Directed and written by the esteemed Oscar nominee Greta Gerwig, this movie promises to captivate audiences with a unique storyline set in the enchanting world of Barbie Land.
The French house has a long history of collaborating with the world of cinema, and this latest venture is no exception for Chanel. Working closely with the creative minds behind Barbie, Chanel proudly contributed several exquisite costumes for Margot Robbie’s character and even designed a stylish ski suit for Ken’s character, portrayed by the charming Ryan Gosling.
In a June 2023 interview, Margot Robbie shared her excitement about the film, stating, “You’ll notice a lot of CHANEL, Barbies like CHANEL! I’ve got some great CHANEL outfiits in the film that I got to wear. The mentality with Barbie is that she has all the accessories—there’s always a hat or bow and earrings and jewelry. The jewelry is big in the way it would be on a doll: big necklaces and earrings. Hats are never for protection from the sun, they’re just another accessory, along with bags and shoes and all of it! It was really fun,” shares Robbie in an interview recorded previously to the ongoing writers and actors strike.
Under the creative direction of the labels Director Virginie Viard, five stunning silhouettes from Chanel will grace the big screen. All five are complemented by an array of exquisite quilted bags, including a heart-shaped one, and captivating accessories such as shield-eyewear from the COCO NEIGE collection, holographic cuffs, and costume jewelry, as well as hats from Maison Michel. Jacqueline Durran, an Oscar-winning costume designer and a close friend of the House of Chanel, had the pleasure of selecting outfits in various shades of pink from the Ready-to-Wear, COCO BEACH, and COCO NEIGE collections, all envisioned by Virginie Viard. Each of the five featured silhouettes, including three suits, a ski suit, and a dress, was thoughtfully chosen to reflect the essence of the Barbie character as she embarks on her captivating journey in the film.
The highly anticipated “Barbie” movie will is now in cinemas in Europe, USA and Asia.
