Fashion house GIAMBATTISTA VALLI unveiled its Fall Winter 2023.34 Haute Couture Collection, on Monday, July 3rd, during the ongoing Paris Fashion Week. The designer believes that privacy is of paramount importance in the modern world. To emphasize the idea, he selected his new headquarters as the location for his couture show.
The collection pays tribute to the purist ideals of Haute Couture, despite Valli’s disinclination toward reductionism. The mood board for the collection featured vintage black-and-white archival photos of ateliers from the 1950s juxtaposed with recent images captured in his own maison’s workshop, seamlessly blending the two eras. The perfect integration of these images demonstrates that couture transcends time and is not exclusive to a particular era. Modernity, according to Valli, is firmly anchored in classicism.
Valli mastered intricate techniques to create new weightless volumes and boundary-pushing constructions by returning to the essence of savoir-faire. He emphasized the artistry required to create extraordinary garments, viewing each dress as a “personality” in its own right. The silhouettes were distinct yet harmonious, expressing individuality and character through fluid columns, billowy cupcakes, skillfully draped flou, and structured crinolines. By reducing the color palette to deep black, stark white, Bois de Rose, and strategically placed bursts of absinthe and silver, Valli’s message gained further clarity. The overall presentation was given a hint of concision by the meticulously styled ensembles.
