Louis Vuitton unveils its debut Malle Vestiaire in partnership with rugby icon, Dan Carter. The esteemed House Ambassador of Louis Vuitton and the Maison’s craftsmen teamed up for this unique wardrobe trunk tailored for Carter’s treasured sports equipment and keepsakes.
Drawing from a rich history of nearly 160 years in trunk-making expertise, this masterpiece is constructed using premium wood. Adorned with Louis Vuitton’s signature Monogram Eclipse canvas in black-and-silver, the design is reminiscent of historic Louis Vuitton trunks with its metallic clasps, closures, and rivets. The Monogram Eclipse’s colors echo the New Zealand rugby team’s hues and are accentuated with logos and numbers particular to Dan Carter, such as DC10 (his jersey number) and 1598, denoting his international rugby point tally.
“On the occasion of the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France, we wanted to create an extra-special object. This Malle Vestiaire holds all the memorabilia that symbolise the amazing memories I have of playing professional rugby, while also paying tribute to Louis Vuitton’s renowned Art of Travel. I really can’t think of a better way for them to be displayed than in this beautiful trunk.” – says Dan Carter.
The trunk’s interior, furnished with microfiber and sportswear-style fabric, houses a collection of Carter’s most cherished mementos: his three World Rugby Player of the Year trophies, three Rugby World Cup medals, milestone 100th-test caps, iconic Rugby World Cup jerseys, his “retirement” boots and another pair from a Rugby World Cup, editions of his book “The Art of Winning”, and a Louis Vuitton rugby ball from his 2019 collaboration with the Maison.
The trunk’s five microfiber-lined drawers come with white leather grips, while a spacious drawer showcases woven cotton straps, paying homage to iconic Louis Vuitton pieces, notably the Secrétaire Linge.
