Luxury house Moschino unveiled its Spring Summer 2024 Collection, that celebrates the brand’s 40th anniversary and pays homage to the iconic Franco Moschino, with a fashion show held on Thursday, September 21st, during the ongoing Milan Fashion Week. The “40 Years of Love” collection is a unique collaborative effort, that features designs from four esteemed stylists and friends of the House: Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele, Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, Lucia Liu, and Katie Grand.
SPRING SUMMER 2024 COLLECTIONS
Each stylist brings a unique perspective, aiming to articulate the rich tapestry of Franco Moschino‘s inspiration and ideology. Whether it’s Carlyne’s contemporary take on what defines a classic or Gabriella’s modern reinterpretation of Franco’s signature pieces through her own eccentric lens, each act of this ensemble presents an updated take on Franco’s groundbreaking work.
Lucia Liu delves into the romance and femininity that are often overlooked in Franco’s designs, while Katie Grand explores the idea of “LOUD LUXURY,” questioning if good taste can survive the noisy world we live in. The Moschino Spring Summer 2024 collection is as conceptual as it is commercial, offering a fresh take on Franco’s famous slogans, irreverent humor, and his views on the fashion system.
A standout moment of this celebration is a musical tribute by Laura Marzadori, concertmaster of Teatro alla Scala, who played “I Am What I Am,” echoing Franco’s sentiments and his Fall Winter 1986 fashion show. In addition, a special collaboration with the Elton John AIDS Foundation will see the release of a limited edition t-shirt, with 100% of the proceeds going to the foundation.
“40 Years of Love” encapsulates Franco’s philosophical approach to fashion. His love for paradoxes, humor, and freedom offers a timeless lesson: the ability to question and challenge the system while still being a part of it. The essence of the collection lies in offering freedom of choice, just as Franco would have wanted. With this collection, Moschino reminds us that fashion should not just be about the system, but about individual expression, joy, and above all, love.
