The House of Moschino announced this morning the newest addition to the team, Davide Renne, who has been appointed as the Creative Director. With an impressive career spanning two decades at Gucci, where he eventually served as the Head Designer of Womenswear, Davide Renne will now take the reins of creativity for Moschino’s main line, overseeing women’s, men’s, and accessories. He will report directly to Massimo Ferretti, the Executive Chairman of Aeffe SpA.
Davide will officially assume the role of Creative Director at Moschino on November 1st, 2023, and fashion enthusiasts can anticipate his inaugural collection for Fall/Winter 2024, which will debut during February’s 2024 Milan Fashion Week.
“Today we welcome Davide to the Moschino family,” says Massimo Ferretti, Executive Chairman, Aeffe SpA. “We have all been impressed by Davide’s extremely sophisticated vision of fashion’s power to create a living dialogue with the world around us, and by his deep understanding of the House of Moschino’s legacy and of our codes. He is a brilliant designer, and a special human being: Franco used to say that bad manners are the only true bad taste and getting to know Davide I have been struck not only by his obvious talent but by his kindness, his sensibility. We are confident that he will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Moschino, a global House with an Italian heart, and a truly unique DNA in the luxury industry.“
Reflecting on his new role, Davide Renne states: “Franco Moschino had a nickname for his design studio: la sala giochi – the playroom. This resonates deeply with me: what fashion – Italian fashion especially, and the House of Moschino most of all can achieve with its enormous power should be accomplished with a sense of play, of joy. A sense of discovery, and experimentation. I am very conscious of the honor that Mr. Ferretti – a gentleman who has been almost fatherly in his ability to listen and establish a dialogue during our encounters – has bestowed upon me in taking charge of the House founded by one of fashion’s great minds. So, thank you Mr. Ferretti for giving me the keys to your playroom. I can’t wait to begin – we’ll have fun. Together.“
This exciting appointment marks a significant moment in the evolution of Moschino, and Davide Renne’s creative prowess is expected to usher in a new era of innovation and style for the iconic brand. Renne is certainly to face pressure, filling the shoes of Jeremy Scott who brought back Moschino to the spotlight with his head-turning and daring collections. The appointment follows the now set trend with the fashion houses, focusing on prolific names known to the insiders as leaders of the design teams, instead of ex-Creative Directors turned celebrities in their own right. Just as McQueen appointed Sean McGirr only a week after parting ways with the famed Sarah Burton, Aeffe SpA seems to head the same way.
Many industry are speculating the decisions the brands are making, yet the reasons are only known to the labels. One thing is for certain, the new talent is certainly needed on the scene and the power card of famous Creative Director seems to be worn out throughout the industry. Thus allowing a myriad of talent to step in front of the spotlight after decades in the background.
