Swedish fashion label Rave Review showcased their Spring Summer 2024 collection at Milan Fashion Week, marking their debut on the event’s official calendar. The show, which took place on September 24th, held the honor of concluding the physical show lineup right before the CNMI sustainable awards.
SPRING SUMMER 2024 COLLECTIONS
The presentation set a mood right from the beginning. A patchwork catwalk, with floral and checkered carpet patterns, paved the way for the models. The ambient sounds included a shoegaze version of “Take My Breath Away“, which then transitioned to a Nirvana cover of Kate Bush’s “Wuthering Heights“. This musical choice infused the atmosphere with a grunge vibe while simultaneously evoking a sense of romanticism.
The design inspirations of Rave Review for this collection encompassed elements from rustic aesthetics, a dash of kitschy romance, punk undertones, and the raw energy of grunge. While they have been traditionally celebrated for their vibrant color choices and eclectic print mingling, this season showcased a different side. The collection pivoted towards a subtler palette featuring monochrome white ensembles, bleached floral patterns, worn-out denim, brown tartans, and edgy black leather.
The brand’s enduring quest to rejuvenate vintage textiles and reinterpret traditional craftsmanship was evident. Lace patches with ragged edges, singed ditsy floral bed sheets, and distinctive stud details echoed the collection’s theme of exploring “craftsmanship in a naïve way,” as described by the brand itself. They dubbed it “craft gone wrong“.
Josephine Bergqvist and Livia Schuck, the creative minds behind Rave Review, opted to reutilize materials they had accumulated over the years. Their commitment to sustainability was evident, as they said, “For SS24, it was a necessary but also fun challenge of mostly using these fabrics, with only minimal deadstock materials sourced anew. As a designer, the limits of available resources often inspire more creativity than having boundless freedom.“
The Rave Review Spring Summer 2024 collection includes new versions of the brand’s signature blanket coat, spiral cut summer dresses, flared asymmetric outfits, and delicate ruffled blouses. A recurring motif is the patchwork cuts, with many outfits crafted solely from white bed linen and lace curtains. “We love to include a mix of both the perfectly white bed linen, but also the older more yellow ones, – it shows how time sets a mark which we find so beautiful and nostalgic. What we ultimately aim for is to twist and turn history into something new.“
i am for sure seeing the nirvana inspiration!
