The 2023 CFDA Fashion Awards, in partnership with Amazon Fashion, took place at the American Museum of Natural History on November 6th. The event, hosted by actress Anne Hathaway, celebrated the best in American fashion.

CFDA Chairman Thom Browne commenced the evening with a welcoming address. Catherine Holstein of KHAITE was honored as the American Womenswear Designer of the Year, an award presented by Hathaway and designer Narciso Rodriguez. Willy Chavarria was named the American Menswear Designer of the Year, an accolade bestowed by musicians J Balvin and designer Greg Lauren.
The Olsen Twins, Ashley and Mary-Kate, were recognized as the American Accessory Designer of the Year, announced by Ayo Edebiri and Prabal Gurung. The emerging talent was also spotlighted; Rachel Scott of Diotima took home the Shop with Google American Emerging Designer of the Year award, presented by actors Charles Melton and Zac Posen.
Tennis star Serena Williams was celebrated as this year’s Fashion Icon, with Kim Kardashian presenting the award. Demi Moore introduced the Innovation Award presented by Amazon Fashion, which went to goop’s Gwyneth Paltrow.
Other special tributes included the Board of Directors’ Tribute to designer Vera Wang for her contributions to bridal fashion, presented by Vanessa Hudgens, and the Media Award in honor of Eugenia Sheppard, which was given to Alina Cho with Naomi Watts presenting.
Lifetime achievements were also acknowledged. Maria Cornejo received the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award from actress Laura Linney, and Domenico De Sole was awarded the Founder’s Award in honor of Eleanor Lambert, presented by Tom Ford.
The event also recognized sustainable practices with the Environmental Sustainability Award going to Mara Hoffman, presented by Rosario Dawson. International influence in fashion was highlighted by Greta Lee, who awarded Jonathan Anderson with the International Award for his work with JW Anderson and LOEWE.
The ceremony included a nod to cultural milestones with a tribute to the 50th anniversary of Hip-hop, introduced by Mary J. Blige, and a reflection on the historic Battle of Versailles.
The CFDA Fashion Awards serve to showcase the achievements and innovative spirit of the American fashion industry. Winners and honorees are selected by the CFDA Awards Guild, which includes CFDA members, fashion journalists, stylists, and top retail executives.
