Cristóbal Balenciaga – a new original drama series celebrating the life and impact of the legendary Spanish fashion designer, is set to premiere on January 19, 2024, exclusively on Disney+. Crafted by creators Lourdes Iglesias and the acclaimed trio Aitor Arregi, Jon Garaño, and Jose Mari Goenaga, the series will delve into the journey of Cristóbal Balenciaga, portrayed by Alberto San Juan, whose innovative vision transcended social norms and transformed the fashion landscape.
The narrative begins as Balenciaga unveils his inaugural Parisian Haute Couture collection in 1937, transitioning from his acclaim in Spain, where he dressed the elite, to the challenging and opulent fashion scene of Paris, dominated by fashion houses like Chanel, Dior, and Givenchy. Driven by his meticulous nature, Balenciaga’s quest for perfection leads him to become one of the most important designers of all time.
The series features an international ensemble, including Belén Cuesta as Fabiola de Mora y Aragón and Josean Bengoetxea as the businessman Nicolás Bizkarrondo, alongside an array of notable 20th-century figures portrayed by an illustrious cast: Cecilia Solaguren, Adam Quintero, Thomas Coumans, Gemma Whelan, Anouk Grinberg, Gabrielle Lazure, Patrice Thibaud, Nine d’Urso, and Anna-Victoire Olivier, representing icons such as Coco Chanel, Christian Dior, and Audrey Hepburn.
