Guy Ritchie, known for his distinctive style in the gangster genre, is set to captivate television audiences with a brand-new series, “The Gentlemen.” Premiering next year, this TV show is an extension of the world Ritchie first introduced in his 2020 film of the same name. Although the TV series will feature entirely new characters, it promises to retain the original film’s sharp edge and wit, complete with fresh twists and turns.
“The Gentlemen” features an impressive cast, including Emmy-nominated Theo James from “The White Lotus 2,” Kaya Scodelario of “Crawl” and “The Pale Horse,” Daniel Ings from “I Hate Suzie,” Joely Richardson of “Lady Chatterley’s Lover,” Vinnie Jones, known for “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels,” Giancarlo Esposito from “Better Call Saul,” Chanel Cresswell of “This is England,” Michael Vu, Max Beesley from “Hijack,” Jasmine Blackborow of “Marie Antoinette,” Harry Goodwins of “In His Hands: The Emergence,” Dar Salim from “The Covenant,” Pearce Quigley of “Detectorists,” Ruby Sear, and Peter Serafinowicz from “The Tick.”
Ritchie, a multi-talented and award-winning filmmaker, is at the helm of this project, serving as the creator, co-writer, and executive producer. He has also directed the first two episodes of the series, ensuring his signature style is embedded from the start.
The plot of “The Gentlemen” revolves around Eddie Horniman, portrayed by Theo James, who unexpectedly inherits his father’s sizeable country estate, only to find out it’s part of a cannabis empire. As Eddie delves into this new world, he encounters various unsavory characters from Britain’s criminal underworld, all vying for a piece of the operation. Determined to protect his family, Eddie attempts to outsmart the gangsters but soon finds himself drawn into the allure of criminal life.
Though the series is set in the same world as the “The Gentlemen” film, it diverges by introducing a new set of characters, providing a fresh perspective within Ritchie’s established universe.
The series is co-written by Guy Ritchie and Matthew Read. The executive production team includes Ritchie, Read, Marn Davies, Ivan Atkinson, Marc Helwig for Miramax TV, and Will Gould and Frith Tiplady for Moonage Pictures. The Series Producer is Hugh Warren.
“The Gentlemen” is a joint production venture between Netflix, Moonage Pictures, and Miramax TV. The 2020 feature film of the same name was a significant success, grossing over $115 million worldwide, setting high expectations for this upcoming series.
