Nike Book 1 Chapter One release (dropping this Sunday), planned months in advance is remarkably coinciding with both a major color trend and the introduction of Devin Booker into Nike’s sportswear lineup. The Clay Orange nuance of the sneaker is incredibly similar to the just released Pantone colour of the year – the PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz introduced only a couple of days ago.
Coincidences or careful strategic foresight by Nike? Is it mere coincidence or a result of Nike’s savvy market insight? It seems likely that both Nike’s design team and Devin Booker had a hand in what might be the most sought-after shoe of 2024. Let’s go deep into the details of the design process of the Book 1 Chapter One, the inspirations behind it, and the main features of final product itself.
Devin Booker Debut at The Nike Basketball
In order to warmly welcome Devin Booker into the Nike Basketball family, the brand has introduced his first signature shoe, which is called the Nike Book 1. The new shoe release was announced by Nike press team Mid September this year. In spite of the fact that he is only 26 years old, Booker has already established himself as one of the top players in the National Basketball Association. In his pursuit to become one of the best shooting guards in the league, he never loses his concentration on his game and meticulously analyses each and every play he makes. His signature approach is meticulous, and he draws inspiration from the fundamentals that the greats have established.
“Early on, we landed on the phrase ‘future classic, at the beginning of the design process, we landed on the idea of the shoe combining lifestyle and performance worlds. The goal was to create something that would be timeless,” shares Devin Booker with the press talking about the Nike Book 1 Clay Orange release.
The Design Behind Nike Book 1 Chapter One
The same characteristics that define Booker’s game serve as the inspiration for his personal style, which is traditional and original while yet being aimed towards performance. It was with the intention of still being able to perform at the greatest level of the game that he built his first shoe, which was the Nike Book 1. The shoe was designed considering the original Nike style. This shoe features an upper with a tonal orange finish, drawing inspiration from traditional workwear. It is designed with canvas quarter panels and adorned with scaly leather across the forefoot area. Unique design touches include the word ‘Book’ prominently displayed on the woven tongue tag, while ‘Chapter One’ is elegantly inscribed on a pull tab. This small but significent design detail is reminiscent of a book spine and no doubt a clever little pun to the basketball players surname.
The Air Force 1, the Blazer, and the AJ1 were among of the silhouettes that Booker brought to the attention of the design team as potential starting points. Another source of design inspiration was one of his repaired automobiles, a 1972 Chevrolet Blazer K5, a blue beauty that he dubbed “Uncle Larry” and transformed into a low-rider. He claims that it is LS-swapped, which means that the stock engine has been swapped out for a contemporary, high-performance one. He was able to maintain the car’s original patina, which is what gives it its vintage appearance. Inside is a high-tech environment. The exterior is a classic style.
Nike Book 1 Part of the 2024 Must-Have Pastelle Sneakers
The pastell colour sneakers are bound to dominate the upcoming 2024, and this sunday’s release the Nike Book 1 only proves so. On the exterior, a canvas and twill upper that is inspired by workwear adds durability. Additionally, a suede collar and real leather across the forefoot provide additional reinforcement and a comfortable, velvety, and broken-in feel by providing additional reinforcement. A pull tab at the heel was designed to look like a book spine, with the numbers referring to different chapters in a story that is still being told. And all of that in two signature colour ways.
The Functionallity of Book 1 Chapter One
Booker and Nike team also worked on enhancing the shoes functionality, it is equipped with a midsole made from Cushlon 2.0 foam, encased in matching orange TPU sidewalls to provide substantial support. This design is not just about aesthetics; it’s also about performance and this was important for the basketball star from the getgo. Integrated into the heel of the shoe is a top-loaded Zoom Air bag unit, meticulously engineered to offer exceptional responsiveness during on-court activities.
Industry insight, or sheer luck, Nike and Booker got the colour of the season and like the most coveted sneaker at the same time. Additionally, this partnership also launched 10 jersey and tshirt garment designs for the young basketball player release, quickly taking Booker to the Nike basketball icons status.
