Kim Jones, the Artistic Director of Dior Men, unveils the Winter 2024-2025 collection, a profound homage to the world of ballet and its intersection with fashion. Drawing inspiration from the iconic ballet dancer Rudolf Nureyev, as well as his connections to Margot Fonteyn and Monsieur Dior, Jones infuses the collection with a personal touch, rooted in his family’s history with Nureyev through his uncle, photographer and former ballet dancer Colin Jones. This collection stands as a tribute to the contrasts between the onstage brilliance and offstage authenticity of a dancer’s life, blending the theatricality of haute couture with the practicality of ready-to-wear.
The collection features a reinterpretation of Saint Laurent‘s tailoring, focusing on volumes and intricate details, paired with a masculine iteration of Dior’s iconic Bar jacket, showcasing Jones’s unique design perspective. The 60s and 70s inspired simplicity is evident in the collection’s single-breasted designs and gently flared trousers, reflecting the disciplined yet flamboyant style of Nureyev. In contrast, the couture pieces echo Nureyev’s stage presence and his passion for antique textiles, particularly in the meticulously crafted Japanese kimonos and historic Dior embroideries. The presentation of the collection, directed by Baillie Walsh and set to music by Max Richter, further integrates ballet with contemporary fashion, celebrating the legacy of Nureyev and Fonteyn in a contemporary context.
