Children of the Discordance, a renowned fashion brand known for its unique and expressive designs, unveiled its Fall Winter 2024 Collection at Milan Fashion Week. The collection, titled “Hatsugen,” was presented on January 16th, through a captivating fashion film broadcasted on the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (CNMI) platform.
The fashion film, also named “Hatsugen,” was produced and directed by exp(x) studio. It draws inspiration from the work of Japanese independent hip-hop artist Mamenchisaurus and his piece “Hatsugen.” The song’s lyrics, which explore the conflicts and decisions of everyday life and the importance of self-expression, deeply influenced Shikama Hideaki, the creative director of Children of the Discordance.
Hideaki’s creative vision for the Fall Winter 2024 collection centers on the theme of pursuing individual originality and rediscovering forgotten emotions within oneself. This concept is reflected in the unique and original fabrics used throughout the collection, pushing the brand’s mantra of “One and Only” to new heights. Hideaki views this approach as a driving force in developing the collection and setting its future direction.
The Fall Winter 2024 collection continues Children of the Discordance‘s signature use of gradation in black and white, experimenting with faded nuances and grey shades, from charcoal to light grey. This season introduces a combination of dull white with brown shades and hints of gold, adding depth and richness to the color palette.
Among the original fabrics featured in the collection are hand-painted paisley jacquard fabrics with layered pigments and quilting applied to “Ultra Suede,” developed by Toray Industries. The pattern on this fabric is an original representation of rose thorns. Another highlight is the natural vegetable-dyed textile from Rajasthan, India, printed using woodblock-carved stamps. The collection also includes a long coat made from polyester taffeta mixed with wool fabric, remade to create air bubbles.
