Presented on Thursday, January 18 at Palais de Tokyo in Paris, the Homme Plissé Issey Miyake Fall Winter 2024.25 Collection titled “Immersed in the Wilds of Creativity” offers a fresh perspective on the translation of artistic material into clothing design. The collection explores the dynamic relationship between conceptual art and its realization in fashion. It suggests that interpreting creative visuals in clothing transcends transformation into motifs and patterns, instead forming an integral part of the design and making process, resulting in a harmonious creative journey.
FALL WINTER 2024.25 MENSWEAR COLLECTIONS
This season, Homme Plissé Issey Miyake embarked on a collaborative project with designer and artist Ronan Bouroullec. The brand’s design team worked closely with Bouroullec’s drawings, approaching them as a diverse range of materials to explore and incorporate into the collection. Bouroullec’s deep understanding of the brand’s design philosophy and creative process, enriched by numerous meaningful interactions, has significantly inspired this collection.
It was an extraordinary experience to work with the design team, where I discovered many things over the course of the creative session about what my work has in common and in contrast with their clothing design. And it is the synergy as well as the distance between us that have made this project both inspiring and rewarding – Ronan Bouroullec
Ronan Bouroullec, born in 1971 in Quimper, Brittany, is a French designer whose work spans more than two decades. His design practice includes interior design, furniture, lighting, urban spaces, architecture, and installations, many of which are recognized and collected by museums and design institutes worldwide. Drawing is an essential part of Bouroullec’s daily routine and a source of inspiration for his designs.
The collaboration has led to unique creations. RB_Drawing Pleats WB features Bouroullec’s “Drawing” series integrated with the brand’s signature pleated fabric, where the white space in the original artwork is translated into the form of a garment. The shading of the pleats enhances the vivid, deep colors and delicate brushwork of the original painting. RB_Drawing Scarf, inspired by elements in Bouroullec’s “Drawing”, is knitted with multi-colored yarn and designed with holes that allow multiple ways of wearing, creating wearable art.
RB_Drawing Coat showcases Bouroullec’s signature paintings on light polyester fabric using silkscreen printing with separate plates for each color, maintaining the depth and subtlety of the original artwork. The coat and poncho styles are designed to accentuate the liveliness of the original artwork. RB_Emroidery Shirt is made of naturally textured fabric and embroidered with Bouroullec’s work “Stylo-Bille” (ballpoint pen). The embroidery celebrates the rich, detailed colors and organic shapes of the original work.
RB_All Over Pleats integrates Bouroullec’s “All Over” series with the brand’s pleated fabric. The original drawing, filled with countless lines, creates a lively pattern that immerses wearers in the artwork. RB_Stylo-Bille Cushion Coat features a patch style pocket allowing the garment to be folded into a functional cushion. The Gobelins weave expresses “Stylo-Bille”, and when worn as a coat, the colors are inverted, offering a different color scheme.
