IKEA is set to make a unique appearance at Paris Fashion Week from February 29 to March 3, 2024, at 28 Rue de Lappe near Bastille. This event, titled “IKEA+,” is inspired by the IKEA Life at Home Report, which highlights that 48% of people globally feel their life at home is not represented in the media. The exhibition is designed to challenge this perception and showcase diverse perspectives on life at home.
The event will feature the final 25 portraits from IKEA’s Artist in Residence collaboration with renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz. The portraits, taken in various countries including Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States, provide a genuine glimpse into the lives of people in their homes. Additionally, works by six aspiring photographers from a unique mentorship program led by IKEA and Annie Leibovitz will be on display.
The selected photographers include Ka’Vozia Glynn from the United States, a junior at Arizona State University with a passion for storytelling through vibrant photography and filmmaking; Zélie Hallosserie from France, who transitioned from biology to photography with the ambition to become a documentary photographer; Praise Hassan from Nigeria, a multi-disciplinary artist focusing on self-portraiture and capturing emotional connections to places; Toma Hurduc from Romania, whose work explores the concept of home and intimacy; Elena Kalinichenko from Ukraine, an artist who finds inspiration in everyday details and traditional art forms, and who played a vital role during the Battle for Kyiv; and Trâm Nguyen Quang from the Netherlands, a cognitive neuroscience student combining her studies with analogue photography to express nostalgia.
IKEA+ also includes contributions from French and international stylists and designers, as well as students from the alternative French fashion school Casa93. The event will host a series of talks and events centered around themes of representation, culture, self-expression, and style.
True to IKEA’s spirit, the event will feature food and drinks with a Parisian twist, a new collection of products from a new collaborator, and a music program in collaboration with Paris and London-based radio station Rinse.
IKEA+ aims to create a global platform for emerging talents, artists, and musicians, bringing together a diverse mix of people, topics, and experiences. Marcus Engman, Creative Director at Ingka Group (IKEA Retail), expresses excitement about the event, inviting everyone to join in celebrating the new, the unseen, and the unexpected.
The event is open to all, with free admission, and the full lineup and tickets will be released on February 14th.
