The Fall Winter 2024-25 collection by JOHN LAWRENCE SULLIVAN, titled “STACK,” is inspired by the works of German architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and the “Stacks” series by artist Donald Judd. The collection incorporates the concept of stacking in both functional and aesthetic aspects, boldly applied across men’s and women’s wear, accessories, and shoes.
The collection features designs such as double-layered bomber jackets, collared jackets, hoodies, and shirts with double collars and ties. One standout piece is the triple-waisted pants that resemble cummerbunds, alongside triple-layered denim skirts. Accessories in the collection are designed to be infinitely stackable, showcasing the creativity in even the smallest details, such as the 1cm branded metal plates vertically placed on coats, jackets, shirts, and denim pants. By pairing these pieces with lace tops and high heels, the collection creates underground atmosphere true to the JOHN LAWRENCE SULLIVAN aesthetic.
Designer Arashi Yanagawa integrates details and textures from furniture created by his favorite artists into the collection. The cantilevered jewelry, inspired by Mies’s “MR chair,” and the velvet dresses and skirts, elevated from the curtains in “Café Samt & Seide” by Lilly Reich and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, are prime examples. Other notable inspirations include Arne Jacobsen’s “Ant Chair” transformed into “three-legged” high heels, Marcel Breuer’s “Wassily Chair” as a belt, and Charlotte Perriand’s “Les Arcs Chair” as leather accessories.
The collection also features original graphics by art director duo AHONEN & LAMBERG, regular collaborators of JLS. These graphics, translating Mies van der Rohe’s famous phrase “LESS IS MORE,” will appear as prints on tops and T-shirts, adding a layer of artistic expression to the collection.
