The JW Anderson Men’s Autumn Winter 2024 and Women’s Pre-Fall 2024 collections draw inspiration from the domestic fantasy seen in Stanley Kubrick‘s film “Eyes Wide Shut,” particularly the interiors and the paintings by Christiane Kubrick, the director’s wife. This influence is evident in the use of vivid colors, figurative designs, and the transformation of background elements into key features of the collection.
The collection creatively brings what was once in the background to the forefront, blending coziness with a hint of perversion. It features luxurious materials like velvet and satin, combined with padding and drapes, creating a juxtaposition of loungewear and elegance. as well by the pairing of plush garments with stilettos.
One of the highlights of the collection is the knitwear, which showcases Christiane Kubrick’s paintings, with some designs split across multiple long dresses. This artistic influence extends to the transformation of furnishing fabrics and arrangements into clothing, such as puffy cardigans and bloomers lined with satin, reminiscent of cushions and curtains.
The collection plays with proportions and scale, featuring oversized blazers, shirts with enormous sleeves, and jumpers. This exaggerated sizing creates a sense of the body being trapped within unusually placed sleeves, adding a layer of complexity to the garments. Textures are skillfully paired to enhance this effect.
Accessories, too, reflect this slightly off-kilter theme, with tassels adorning high heels and loafers featuring oversized tassels. The overall aesthetic is one of weird and perverse domesticity, plush and padded, where everything feels intentionally off-balance.
