KB Hong, the high-end brand from the K-BOXING group, returned to Milan Menswear Fashion Week with a show on January 15. Founded in 1980 in China and nurtured through three generations, KB Hong has continually presented to the fashion world with its unique blend of Eastern and Western influences.
This year’s show, titled “The Collector from 2080,” was directed by the Sergio Salerni and hosted at the Alcione Theater in Piazza Vetra. The theme encapsulates the brand’s centennial dream and K-BOXING’s profound understanding of culture, history, and future fashion trends, both domestically and internationally.
Creative director Boming Hong, along with Italian design director Massimo Foroni and a team of distinguished Chinese designers, crafted a collection that focuses on the fusion of Eastern and Western aesthetics. The collection’s muse, the collector, is portrayed as a cultured and discerning traveler, gathering emotions and objects on his journeys that enrich his soul. This character embodies the connection between ancient Western philosophies and a forward-looking perspective.
The collection draws inspiration from various elements of Chinese culture. It features motifs from Dunhuang and “The Classic of Mountains and Seas,” as well as interpretations of traditional Chinese clothing designs. These include pleating, overlapping collars, and Chinese-style front plackets, all of which reflect the designers’ fascination and exploration of Oriental aesthetics.
In terms of color palette, the collection presents a mix of neutral tones and dark browns, accented with splashes of purple and silver. Abstract animal prints, reminiscent of the mythological Lushu, are juxtaposed against jet black fabrics. Additionally, striking contrasts are created with teal and jade green set against amethyst violet.
KB Hong’s selection of textiles also reflects the brand’s commitment to cultural blending and quality. The collection features a mix of luxurious natural fibers such as cashmere, camel hair, alpaca wool, wool, and silk, combined with modern artificial fibers to create technical pieces. This blend results in oversized fits and maxi lengths, offering a wardrobe that goes beyond gender and time, celebrating the beauty of different cultural influences.
