The Miss Sohee Spring Summer 2024 Couture Collection is a manifestation of beauty found in old, neglected objects and the stories they hold. Inspired by her recent travels to Seoul and a deep-seated passion for revitalizing forgotten treasures, Sohee creates a collection that blends timelessness with contemporary flair.
This collection stands at the crossroads of the study of the female form and the art of sophisticated seduction. It is rooted in the ideas of corsetry, daring slits, and open-back dresses, all while upholding traditional couture techniques and shapes. This approach is exemplified in the opening bridal-inspired look, which sets the tone for the entire collection.
Elements such as old white porcelain vases, mother-of-pearl jewellery boxes, and wooden fans are directly translated into the collection’s shapes. Hourglass skirts echo the form of the vases, backless figure-hugging dresses and handbags represent the mother of pearl, and the wooden fans influence the overall aesthetic. The color palette consists of soft jewel tones, reminiscent of cherry blossoms and magnolias, the first flowers to bloom in spring.
The design narrative of the collection is likened to painting on a canvas, where ideas flow effortlessly. Geometrical shapes of old tiles, surrealist landscape paintings of azalea hills, and the enchanting lotus fields find expression in Swarovski crystal-embellished skirts and intricate embroideries across silk taffeta dresses, billowing chiffon skirts, moiré trains, and soft gazars.
Sohee’s love for craft and textiles is brought to life through a collaboration with South Korean artisans on handbags and Hansan Mosi-linen fans, created using a unique slow-weaving technique and made from locally sourced hemp. The designer also revitalizes fabrics from old costumes with novel interpretations. Intricate hand-embroidered hats add a finishing touch of savoir-faire and finesse to the ensembles, rounding out a collection that is both a tribute to the past and a nod to the future.
