For its Fall-Winter 24-25 collection, titled ‘Portrait of Uncertainty,’ the brand draws inspiration from the life and work of British artist Gluck (Hannah Gluckstein), particularly influenced by her portrait “PETER (A Young English Girl),” painted in 1923 by Romaine Brooks. This portrait embodies a blend of masculinity and simplicity, while simultaneously conveying emotional depth and a subtle femininity. Gluck herself was known for challenging traditional gender norms, adopting a gender-neutral identity and breaking fashion barriers with her short haircut and tailored suits. This intersection of external appearance and internal emotions forms the core of the collection, emphasizing a balance between strength and softness, roughness and finesse, the mundane and the extraordinary.
The collection sets out to defy gender stereotypes and redefine traditional clothing, rooted in the belief that everyone, regardless of gender, should feel confident and empowered in their clothing choices, free from societal constraints. SYSTEM employs innovative tailoring techniques and distinctive design elements to reinterpret and transform classic features, crafting ordinary items into stylish, edgy garments. The collection plays with structural silhouettes and geometric details to accentuate the inherent femininity and masculinity of neutral items.
SYSTEM also announces its second collaboration with renowned British photographer David Sim. The collaboration campaign photos are set to be pre-released during Paris Fashion Week, further showcasing the collection’s unique vision and artistic influence.
