In the wake of his departure from Adidas, Kanye West, rapper turned designer now known as Ye, has now officially launched a much talked about new footwear line: the YZY Pod ‘Black.’ This latest Ye design is marked by a distinct minimalist aesthetic, showcased in a slip-on design with a sleek, black knit composition. The footwear’s high-reaching collar extends to mid-calf, a bold statement in line with Ye’s innovative vision. The sock-shoe was seen for the 1st time almost a year ago on West himself, who wore it on multiple occasions.
While tagged officially as YZY the design is already named by fans as Yeezy Pods, even tho Ye himself seems to be ditching the Adidas associated Yeezy name. This release comes shortly after Ye’s headline-making appointment of the cancelled fashion designer Gosha Rubchinskiy as head of design at Yeezy. The new Yzy Pods made their debut via an exclusive pre-order announcement on platform X by Ye himself, with initial price point set at $200. This marks Ye’s first foray into new footwear territories since the termination of his Adidas contract in October 2022 following a series of controversial statements. Ye is also faced with multiple authorities questioning the originally of the design, with brands such as Vetements and even Dolce & Gabbana already producing and selling a similar design.

Black Yeezy Pods sport a seamless, one-piece design, presenting a strong presence that extends up the calf in a monochromatic black. Available in a trio of sizes, the design’s simplicity is complemented by a foldable, sock-like structure and a slender rubber outsole for effortless traction. While pre-orders started almost 3 weeks ago, the product is already showing up on the market.
Despite the split with Adidas and subsequent sales of remaining Yeezy stock—generating a staggering 437 million american dollars in revenue—Ye has redirected his creative efforts to launching his independent label. This does not come as a surprise, as partnering with Ye is not an option for most of major shoe manufacturers. Brands who already worked with Ye have made clear cuts and closed the door for any future collaborations. When it comes to Adidas, clothing giant fell under harsh criticism for deciding to sell out its remaining stock of Yeezys. However, the portion of the revenue from Adidas’ Yeezy stock release was contributed to several organizations dedicated to combating antisemitism and promoting social change. The sneaker giant is determined on cutting all ties with Ye, while still profiting from the remaining stock.
Today, as Yzy Pods are officially on the market, appearing on popular sneaker shop platforms such as Flight Club and GOAT, we are witnessing the new chapter for Ye in the footwear industry. However, Yeezy Pod Sock design is also accompanied by additional product release. Coming together with the Yzy Pods is the release of an array of merchandise synergized with the launch of Ye and Ty Dolla Sign’s collaborative album, ‘Vultures,’ sealing Ye’s latest chapter in the fashion industry.
