The Autumn/Winter 2024 collection, titled “Reveries,” by Priya Ahluwalia, is centered around Indian and Nigerian folklore, art, and mythology, contextualized into fashion. The inspiration drawn from tales such as ‘The Prince Who Wanted the Moon‘ and ‘How the Leopard Got His Spots’ is translated into a fashion narrative that celebrates the symbiotic relationship between past wisdom and modern reinterpretation. The collection integrates motifs from traditional stories, such as decorative trees, birds, moon, and crown, into the design elements of the collection.
The collection’s homage to traditional Indian and Nigerian attire through silhouette and technique is particularly emphasized. The art of draping, a cornerstone of both cultures, is redesigned in the collection’s hooded dresses and skirt separates, which feature fluid draping that gracefully contours the body, echoing the elegance of the Indian sari and the Nigerian gele. The incorporation of body painting into the print designs references the Igbo tradition of Uli.
For this collection, Ahluwalia’s collaborates with Levi’s® and Ett Hem London with the reimagined Levi’s® denim pieces and the unique headpieces also inspired by folklore and fantasy. The show’s presentation was held at the Central Hall Westminster, accompanied by an ambient soundscape.
