
The spirit of Kobe Bryant is set to be immortalized outside the Crypto.com Arena (formerly Staples Center), a venue often referred to as ‘The House That Kobe Built.’ On February 8, 2024, a date symbolically chosen to reflect the jersey numbers of his daughter Gianna (#2) and the two numbers (#8 & #24) Kobe wore as a distinguished member of the Los Angeles Lakers, the Lakers organization will unveil a statue in his honor. This event pays tribute to Bryant’s incredible 20-year NBA career and it also celebrates his impact on the sport and the city of Los Angeles.

The Lakers organization first announced plans for the statue on August 24, at 8:24 a.m. PT, a nod to Bryant’s jersey numbers. Vanessa Bryant, Kobe’s widow, expressed her gratitude and honor for the tribute in the heart of Los Angeles, in front of the arena that witnessed many of Kobe’s career-defining moments. The ceremony, set to occur before the Lakers’ game against the Denver Nuggets, will be a heartfelt commemoration of Bryant’s legacy. Following the unveiling, fans will have the opportunity to visit the Kobe statue at Star Plaza outside Crypto.com Arena, starting the morning of February 9. Bryant’s statue, crafted by sculptor Julie Rotblatt Amrany of the Fine Art Studio of Rotblatt Amrany, will be the seventh Lakers figure commemorated, standing among legends like Elgin Baylor and Shaquille O’Neal.
