On Wednesday, February 21st, 2024, Milan Fashion Week witnessed the presentation of Onitsuka Tiger‘s latest triumph – the Autumn/Winter Yellow Collection for 2024. Under the visionary guidance of Creative Director Andrea Pompilio, the brand showcased a mesmerizing fusion of Japanese craftsmanship and urban chic, encapsulated in the theme “Urban Winter”. Each ensemble echoed the essence of cityscapes amidst wintry rains, evoking the ambiance of Tokyo’s sudden thunderstorms.
The color palette, a harmonious blend of iconic yellow with metropolitan hues of gray, black, beige, and hazelnut, served as a canvas for innovative silhouettes. From coats to jackets, and peacoats, the collection played with proportions, accentuating broad shoulders juxtaposed with narrow waists through meticulous tailoring techniques like tube padding and ribbing. The introduction of the double cashmere hoodie introduced a novel layering concept, offering versatility as an outerwear piece over matching coats or blousons.
Catering to both men and women, Onitsuka Tiger presented a diverse array of apparel ranging from wide pants in varied styles for men to stretchy slim-fit or oversized trousers for women. Micro skirts and silk panel dresses adorned with shiny and matte paillettes embroidery exuded elegance, complemented by the brand’s debut V-neck decollete with chunky high heels, ensuring both comfort and style. Innovative hybrid shoes combining rubber soles and trekking boots, alongside a double bag crafted from synthetic leather, further underscored the collection’s commitment to functionality and urban sophistication.
As the inaugural event of its 75th anniversary year, the show featured 49 distinctive looks, paying homage to Onitsuka Tiger’s founding year of 1949. Noteworthy among these was the rib-knitted zip-neck wool wear, a nod to the brand’s iconic track top, serving as a celebratory emblem. Prior to the showcase, the mesmerizing performance by the dance ensemble “AVANT-GARDEY“, choreographed by Akane, added an electrifying touch, with vibrant yellow uniforms and redesigned MEXICO 66 sneakers inspired by the movie “Kill Bill“, symbolizing the brand’s evolution and reinterpretation of heritage in contemporary contexts.
