The Thom Browne Fall Winter 2024 Collection unfurls a narrative as haunting as it is sartorially ambitious, set against a backdrop that seems lifted from the pages of Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Raven.” In a desolate, snow-covered landscape, a solitary tree adorned in silk moiré stands as a beacon for a gathering of children, ready to be regaled with tales that chill to the bone.
FALL WINTER 2024.25 WOMENSWEAR
This season, Thom Browne explores the early 20th century, reinterpreting and deconstructing silhouettes that have been exploded into a monochromatic palette of black and white. The collection is a parade of macabre elegance, featuring a raven cloaked in a stole made from shredded tuxedo pieces, its bodice a trompe l’oeil masterpiece beneath which spirals of hand-embroidered ribbons mimic feathers on a crepe wool skirt.
The assembly – a “school of ravens” – is arrayed in tailoring and coats with pronounced shoulders, crafted from military-grade cashmere, hand-loomed tweeds, and adorned with bullion embroidery. Among them, outerwear in shredded denim tweed, satin-stitched roses, shearling, and leather is layered over corsets that echo cumberbunds, while black tie ensembles are reimagined into modular panels that offer a play on silhouette and form.
The collection’s footwear, longwing curved heels, and platform brogues, are ingeniously protected by a removable layer of waterproof vinyl, a detail that extends to accessories including structured Mr. Thom bags, the baguette, tortoiseshell Bermuda bag, and handheld Hector.
Two figures emerge in complementary black and white cashmere dresses, their silhouettes accentuated by gathered blouson capes in white silk satin and black moiré, adorned with bows. This is followed by boatneck poof dresses and tweed skirts, framed by intarsia cricket stripes.
The narrative crescendos with the appearance of the beguiling golden bug, enveloped in a gold jacquard cape with debossed roses and black moiré intarsia ravens, her ensemble completed with a hand-knit gold bouillon cardigan cinched by a corset-topped skirt that flows into a white silk duchess poof skirt.
The Thom Browne Fall Winter 2024 collection, narrated by American actor Carrie Coon, is a fashion statement as well as a storytelling marvel, echoing the refrain “nevermore” in a tribute to Poe’s iconic poem. This collection is a proof of Browne’s mastery in blending narrative depth with cutting-edge fashion, marking another chapter in the designer’s legacy of innovation and creativity.
