Fashion house Akris has unveiled its Fall Winter 2024 Collection, navigating the complexities and contrasts that define contemporary womanhood. Albert Kriemler‘s latest work explores the interplay between shadow and light, simplicity and complexity, and the balance between protecting and projecting one’s identity. This exploration goes beyond the physical, connecting analog traditions with the digital age, especially through the use of photograms on fabric.
FALL WINTER 2024.25 WOMENSWEAR
The Akris Fall Winter 2024 collection captures the essence of what it means to be a woman today, highlighting the contradictions, daily routines, and subtle nuances that shape female identity. The pieces are a tribute to the ways in which women use fashion to express themselves – the effortless throw of a cape over a jacket and knit, transforming a simple dress into a bold statement, or the incorporation of leather to blend allure with authority. Designed for the multifaceted lives women lead, these garments adapt to changing moods, needs, and activities with transformative and hybrid designs.
Redefining traditional silhouettes, the collection introduces garments that challenge and exceed expectations. Coats morph into gilets and jackets; trenches are reimagined as dresses and skirts; and skirts serve dual functions as pants. This design philosophy questions the norms of fashion while also catering to the fluid and versatile lifestyle of modern women. The focus on tailored, elongated forms alongside voluminous shapes ensures aesthetic elegance without compromising functionality, as seen in designs featuring deep pockets and high-buttoned shirts for enhanced mobility.
Texture is a key element, with a selection of materials designed to evoke contrast and sensory experience. Cloud, felted, and bouclé cashmere provide a sumptuous touch, cotton gabardine introduces pragmatism, and shearling adds softness. The collection also features lacquered leather and lace for depth, alongside weightless organza for a hint of ethereality. The color scheme oscillates between deep, dark tones and illuminating bursts of light, with black, mocca, kale green, and deep purple accented by vibrant ambra, magenta, peridot, and pure ecru.
I discovered the photograms of Katalin Deér at Art Basel. Hidden beauties breaking into the light. A photogram is an analog work of art, and to use it for digital photo prints on fabrics, a technique that we pioneered in the early 2000s, resonated with me – Albert Kriemler
