The Celine Winter 2024 Womenswear collection, “La Collection de L’Arc de Triomphe,” finds its muse in a serendipitous moment from 1971 when Celine Vipiana‘s car breakdown near Place de l’Etoile led her to the chain link encircling the Arc de Triomphe. This motif, soon to become Celine’s monogram, was reimagined by Hedi Slimane upon his 2018 arrival at Celine. He infused it with a modernist touch, dubbing it “Triomphe” and ensuring its presence across subsequent collections.
FALL WINTER 2024.25 WOMENSWEAR
This latest collection explores the 1960s, Celine’s golden era, reviving the spirit and origins of the house through two-piece “coordinates” looks and authentically reweaved materials, blending ready-to-wear with hand-embroidered couture pieces. The felt caps, a 60s adaptation of the Celine classic baseball cap, along with the Triomphe bag designed by Slimane on his first day, encapsulate the essence and values of the couture house, making the Triomphe the new classic bag.
The unveiling of “La Collection de L’Arc de Triomphe” also marks the debut of Celine Beauté, the house’s inaugural cosmetics line created by Hedi Slimane in 2023. Expanding from the Haute Parfumerie collection launched in 2019, Slimane’s designs span bottles, pencils, and cases, presenting a luxurious range catering to all beauty rituals. The models showcased “La Peau Nue” rose natural lipstick, a preview from the “Rouge Celine” collection set to release in 2025, with “Rouge Triomphe” as the first satin lipstick shade launching this autumn.
The Celine Winter 2024 presentation unfolded in Paris’ historical Art Deco settings, including La Salle Pleyel, recognized as a historical monument and a prime musical location, and Le Musée Bourdelle’s Salle des Plâtres, a “modern temple” housing monumental plaster casts that underscore the master sculptor’s connection to ancient Greece. La Maison de la Chimie, where Slimane held his first show in 1997 for Yves Saint Laurent, also served as a backdrop, synthesizing 18th-century French architecture with Art Deco styles.
The original soundtrack for Celine, “La Folia,” re-arranged and performed by Mélanie Chedeville and produced alongside Rico the Wizard and Mélanie Chedeville, was commissioned and co-produced by Slimane. The Celine Winter 2024 film, directed by Slimane, pays homage to his mentor, the late photographer Richard Avedon, blending fashion with a poignant tribute to friendship and artistic inspiration.
