Annie Turner, the acclaimed British sculptor, artfully captures the delicate balance between strength and fragility in her creations, drawing inspiration from the ever-changing scenery along the riverbanks. Her ‘Nets’ series, with its intricately woven layers of clay cords, serves as a poignant reflection of this dichotomy, influencing the essence of the Gabriele Colangelo FW 24 collection.
Translating Turner’s ceramic artworks into wearable art, the collection features tightly rolled leather strips woven into elaborate patterns, sculpting new three-dimensional textures that adorn various garments. From pencil skirts paired with poly-silk taffeta bomber jackets to nappa mini dresses accentuated with intricate inlays, each piece exudes a sense of refined craftsmanship and understated elegance.
Pigment-printed nets overlay printed silk organza, adding subtle depth and dimension to tops worn as reversible jackets and leather skirts with asymmetrical back panels. Meanwhile, wool cords intertwine in jacquard patterns, creating an irregular texture for coats and jumpers, further enriched with ribbed knit edges and accents.
Drawing from the natural surroundings of the river, the collection’s color palette reflects the earthy tones of bark, moss, water, and the sky illuminated by morning light. Woven belts, circular chain links, and delicate leather details complete the ensemble, evoking a sense of harmony with nature and a timeless sophistication that is quintessentially Turner.
