When geographical fashion hubs are still relevant even while being continually questioned, the British Fashion Council (BFC) remains a strong force in nurturing creative innovation. The announcement of the 2024/25 NEWGEN recipients underscores the BFC’s commitment to catapulting emerging designers onto the global stage. Partnering with Pull&Bear, the NEWGEN programme is the BFC’s flagship initiative for supporting and showcasing promising talent. Thankfully NEWGEN is still more than just an award; it’s a gateway to the international market for the next generation of fashion luminaries.
This year’s selection showcases a diverse array of designers recognized for their unique creativity and strong design aesthetics. The panel, led by esteemed industry veteran Sarah Mower MBE, BFC Ambassador for Emerging Talent, includes notable first-time recipients such as Aaron Esh, Ancuța Sarca, and Charlie Constantinou, among others. These designers join a lineage of fashion innovators that the BFC NEWGEN has propelled into the spotlight since its inception in 1993—icons like Alexander McQueen and Kim Jones.
With Pull&Bear stepping in as the new Principal Partner, the programme offers not just financial grants but crucial business mentorship. Designers benefit from ‘Canvas for Creativity,’ a novel experiential platform by Pull&Bear, enhancing their storytelling capabilities. Moreover, the selected designers receive tailored mentorship to refine their business acumen, supported by pro-bono legal services from DLA Piper and financial guidance from RSM, ensuring a holistic nurturing environment.
This year’s cohort was chosen from a pool of candidates spanning Ready to Wear Menswear, Womenswear, and Accessories, each bringing a fresh perspective to these categories. The rigorous selection process involved panels of industry stalwarts from various sectors, ensuring a comprehensive evaluation of potential. The selection process for the BFC NEWGEN 2024/25 was overseen by an esteemed panel of judges, each bringing a wealth of expertise and a distinct perspective to the table. Chaired by Sarah Mower MBE, Chief Critic at Vogue Runway and BFC Ambassador for Emerging Talent, the panel included a diverse mix of industry luminaries. Among them were Anita Chhiba, Creative Director of Diet Paratha, known for her innovative approach to fashion media; Anna Orsini, a strategic consultant at the British Fashion Council, who brings a deep understanding of industry dynamics; Christopher Morency, co-founder of edition+partners, providing a fresh, entrepreneurial vision; and Roksanda Ilinčić MBE, founder and creative director of Roksanda, whose eponymous label is celebrated for its artistic and architectural design aesthetic. Other notable members included Francois Souchet, Managing Director at Swanstant, and Stavros Karelis, founder and creative director of MACHINE-A, both of whom have made significant contributions to shaping the contemporary fashion landscape. This panel’s collective experience and commitment to nurturing new talent ensured a rigorous and thoughtful selection process, aiming to spotlight the next generation of leading designers.
As the BFC continues to champion new talent, the importance of the NEWGEN award within the British and global fashion landscape is unequivocal. The BFC’s sustained commitment through initiatives like NEWGEN is essential in maintaining the visibility and influence of British fashion on the world stage.

NEWGEN just does it better! Know so many of these designers, they really deserve any support possible! So happy they included Diet Paratha in the judges panel too!
British Council should know better than to team up with INDITEX company for this….
