In an exclusive interview for DSCENE Magazine, Editor Katarina Doric sits down with designer Piotrek Panszczyk to talk about the inspirations and craftsmanship behind AREA PF24 Collection. Known for his innovative approach and bold designs, Panszczyk explores a dynamic interplay of contrasts this season, blending ultra-feminine and romantic motifs with bold biker influences.

Panszczyk explains, “I’m always attracted to contrasts and working with concepts that contradict themselves, so for me it’s about taking things that feel cliché and seen but infusing them with opposing elements which helps create a new perspective.” This attraction to contrasts is evident in the way the collection merges femininity and romance with hardcore biker elements. He further elaborates, “This PF24 was really looking at contrasting elements and fusing them together into new wardrobe propositions – merging this idea of femininity and romance with hardcore biker elements.”

The collection showcases meticulous textile development and craftsmanship. “There was a lot of continuation and refining of techniques that we’ve been loving lately,” Panszczyk shares. “Firstly, we recreated broderie anglaise patterns by laser cutting hearts out of bonded leather in bold tones of red and black. We continued to explore multi-layered intarsia motifs in denim and leather. For tailoring, we experimented with soft embellishment by draping wool and satin into ruffle-like carnation corsages embroidered with hand-cut heart feathers. Lastly, for high shine, we embroidered teardrop stones into a rich heart-encrusted motif.”

One standout element is the Flower Heart Print, inspired by vintage floral designs by Ken Scott. Panszczyk elaborates, “Here we wanted to clash two very different print moods into something fresh, so we looked at iconic floral prints from 70’s Ken Scott prints and clashed that with vintage YSL graphic heart prints. By merging these two styles together, it blends into an 80s house print that feels unexpected.”
The lookbook has a distinct visual identity, brought to life through a collaboration with Theo Sion, Katie Burnett, and Thomas Lenthal. This collaboration results in a cohesive and striking visual narrative, with sleek, sharp black bobs unifying the characters and embodying the essence of AREA’s aesthetic.

The collection’s balance of toughness and softness is a testament to Panszczyk’s creative vision. The contrast between the toughness of leather and the softness of ruffles and broderie lace creates an unique dynamic. Heart cut-out motifs are translated into intricate lace-like artworks, laser-cut onto bonded leather in striking black and red hues, adorning perfecto motorcycle jackets and tiered ruffle pieces, including voluminous skirts and A-line gowns.
With such a bold fusion of elements, the PF24 collection by AREA exemplifies Piotrek Panszczyk’s innovative and transformative approach to fashion, seamlessly blending contrasts to create a fresh, dynamic perspective.
