Camila Cabello has always been a force to reckon with in the music industry. From her early days as a member of the girl group Fifth Harmony to her successful solo career, she has consistently proven her talent and versatility. With hits like “Havana,” “Señorita,” and “Never Be the Same,” Cabello has cemented her place in pop music. Now, she returns with her highly anticipated new album, ‘C,XOXO,’ a 14-track LP that showcases her growth as an artist and her deep connection to her Cuban-American roots.
‘C,XOXO’ is the singers love letter to her time in Miami, the city that has shaped so much of Cabello’s identity and sound. The album blends Latin rhythms with contemporary pop, creating a vibrant sound that captures the essence of Miami’s diverse culture.
One of the standout features of ‘C,XOXO’ is its impressive list of collaborators. Cabello has brought together some of the biggest names in the industry, including Drake, Playboi Carti, and Lil Nas X, to create a truly diverse album. Each track offers something unique, showcasing Cabello’s ability to adapt and innovate within different musical styles. There are also collaborations with artists like JT, Yung Miami, and BLP KOSHER.
The album opens with “I LUV IT,” an energetic track that sets the tone for the rest of the album. Featuring a guest appearance by Playboi Carti, the song is a celebration of Miami’s vibrant nightlife and rich cultural heritage. The catchy chorus and pulsating beats make it an instant hit.
Following this, the album transitions into “HOT UPTOWN,” a sultry duet with Drake that explores themes of love and longing. The smooth, laid-back vibe of the track perfectly complements Cabello’s velvety vocals, creating a dreamy atmosphere.
Another highlight is “HE KNOWS,” an empowering anthem featuring Lil Nas X already the sophomore single of the new album. The song is a powerful declaration of self-expression, with a driving beat and uplifting lyrics that encourage listeners to embrace their true selves. Lil Nas X’s energetic performance adds a sense of urgency and excitement to the track, making it one of the most memorable songs on ‘C,XOXO.’ To amp up the album release, Cabello quickly went into releasing the 3rd standout track Chanel No.5 as the 3rd single from her new album. And for the fashion statement behind the song, unfortunately there is none. The maison Chanel so far had no statement on the singer’s celebration of their iconic fragrance. The video as well is also completely absent from anything Chanel, in it’s styling and overall minimalist solo dance approach by the songstress.

The penultimate song, “pretty when I cry,” is really one of the best from the album. Usually, people don’t have the habit of listening to the whole album, and then the last songs on the album don’t have a chance. Hopefully, she will release this song as her next single. The album concludes with “June Gloom,” a poignant ballad, which represents the perfect theme for the conclusion of the whole album.
‘C,XOXO’ is bringing us a repackaged Camilla, nevertheless even the album name seemingly alludes to the competitor popstar – and the fans are divided whether the singer’s style change is manufactured or a true exploration of style. The homage seemingly goes further, we can only spot it with Twentysomethings track, resembling the style of SZA who also has a track in similar genre, title 20 Something. However, with its diverse range of musical styles, lyrics, and collaborations, the LP is proof of Cabello’s growth and evolution and willingness to experiment with new styles. Whether you’re a long-time fan or a new listener, ‘C,XOXO’ offers something for everyone, making it a must-listen album of 2024. – Words by Music & Culture Contributor Nikola Bajovic
