In Shanghai, Lanvin marked a significant moment celebrating the launch of Erwin Wurm’s solo exhibition, Dreamwalkers, at the Fosun Foundation. The pre-opening cocktail reception set the stage for this artistic celebration, following Lanvin’s collaboration with the renowned artist, announced in April as part of the Lanvin Lab initiative. This experimental collaborative space is dedicated to exploring cultural and lifestyle expressions.
After traveling through Beijing and Nanjing, the Lanvin Lab by Erwin Wurm sculpture has returned to Shanghai, finding its new home at the Fosun Foundation. The event attracted notable figures from the fashion and art worlds, including Erwin Wurm himself, Fosun Foundation Chairman Jenny Wang, and Lanvin global ambassador and actor Cheng Yi, all eager to experience the innovative exhibition and Wurm’s unique artwork.
In addition to the exhibition “Dreamwalkers”, Lanvin Lab by Erwin Wurm’s large-scale, anthropomorphic figure, crafted in the signature ‘Lanvin blue’ can be found just in front of the Fosun Foundation. This piece, titled Desire, references Lanvin’s iconic Pencil Cat Bag and Cash Sneakers, symbolizing the fusion of art and fashion that Lanvin Lab embodies. Positioned at the entrance of the Fosun Foundation, Desire sets the tone for the exhibition by exploring themes of self-expression and societal perception. As Wurm states, “Symbols of self-expression are what we desire. We often seek this self-expression in objects, such as a beautiful handbag, that represent how we wish to be perceived by others.”
Jeanne Lanvin herself viewed fashion as a cultural dialogue, forming friendships with writers, musicians, theater directors, and architects. This cosmopolitan hub of creativity continues to inspire the brand today.
The Dreamwalkers exhibition will showcase Wurm’s acclaimed One Minute Sculpture series, along with other works incorporating clothing, food, and everyday objects that challenge conventional sculpture concepts. The exhibition will be open to the public from June 19th to August 25th at the Fosun Foundation in Shanghai.
The Lanvin Lab by Erwin Wurm installation will be on display for the duration of the exhibition before continuing its journey to other cities across China in the upcoming months.
