The Spring Summer 25 collection by Ziggy Chen, revealed during Paris Fashion Week, draws its inspiration from the Chinese idiom “盘枝错节,” which translates to “Intertwining Roots.” This concept explores the foundational and often invisible parts of a plant that play a crucial role in its nourishment and stability. In an artistic leap, Chen combines ‘Gnarled Branches’ and ‘Intricate’ into “GNARTRICATE,” transforming these normally hidden elements into visible, disruptive branches that manifest and spread in a disorderly fashion. This theme is present through the collection as it juxtaposes beauty with decadence, and chaos with rigor.
The color palette and materials of the collection are significantly influenced by traditional architecture and the interplay of light and shadow with the structural elements of garden spaces. The colors, muted by the passage of time, feature various shades of purple, greens, and greys, reminiscent of the aged walls that support the growth of garden vegetation. This choice reflects the concept of growth and decay side by side.
In terms of design, the silhouettes of the SS25 collection are notably soft, emphasizing comfort and a natural feel. The fabrics and textures are carefully selected to avoid harsh or constructed shapes, aiming instead to provide a gentle, pleasant experience. Each piece enhances the natural movement of the body, with fabrics that flow and drape fluidly.
The presentation venue was the prestigious Lycée Henri-IV, which provided a backdrop that complemented the themes of the collection with its historical and architectural significance. Take a closer look at Ziggy Chen Spring Summer 25 collection in the Gallery below:
