Celine has released it’s latest campaign for the Men’s Summer 24 Collection, titled “Skate.” Photographed and styled by Hedi Slimane, the shoot has taken place in Palm Springs, with settings ranging from the beauty of a desert to the structured chaos of urban streets. The collection incorporates heavy-duty denim and leather, punctuated by embellishments like studs and embroidery. Rugged materials are paired with luxurious detailing to reflect both streetwear and high fashion sensibilities, giving the models a sense of bold self-expression.
Models are seen wearing minimal jewelry, sunglasses, and occasionally covered faces, which give them a little mystery and edginess. These elements seem carefully chosen to complement the textures and silhouettes of the clothing. The settings themselves play a crucial role for the collection. Whether it’s the barren desert or the palm-lined streets, the environment interacts with the fashion, creating all together compelling imagery.
In the wake of civil unrest in Paris last year, the fashion industry saw a dramatic pivot by Celine as it canceled its highly anticipated Summer 2024 show. However, the creative spirit of the brand, under the artistic and image direction of Hedi Slimane, was far from missing. Instead of a traditional runway event, Slimane released a short film titled “Delusional Daydream.” The film showed models parading through a gleaming golden corridor, resembling rockstars in skin-tight leather pants and glittering blousons, referencing the glamorous aesthetics of the 1970s music scene. The film also included interludes featuring ballet dancer Laurids Seidel performing at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo.
“Delusional Daydream” was a recapitulation of Slimane’s most known contributions to menswear, tracing back to his days at Dior Homme. The film revisited the beloved elements of Slimane’s design —sharp black suits, pristine white shirts, and skinny ties that have become synonymous with his name. This collection served as a “greatest hits” edition, blending Slimane’s signature minimalist tailoring with unexpected, bold feminine touches such as sculptural halter tops, satin bows, and voluminous sleeves. These elements subtly nodded to the extravagant attire of the 17th-century French court.
For Celine Men’s Spring 24 Skate Campaign, Hedi Slimane is once again at the forefront, as designer, photographer, and fashion editor/stylist. The visuals are brought to life under the eye of hair stylist Esther Langham, with the looks modeled by Idries West, among others. See more of the collection in the Gallery below:
