END., the British retailer has teamed up with Gary Aspden’s iconic adidas SPZL for the first time to introduce “By The Sea,” a unique 11-piece collection. Drawing inspiration from the quintessentially British seaside town, this collection celebrates both the heritage of the retailer and adidas SPZL in honor of their 10th anniversary.
Founded in 2014 by Gary Aspden, adidas SPZL has spent the past ten years reimagining the legacy of the Brand with Three Stripes. The label, known for reviving adidas’ archival designs, presents a fresh take on vintage footwear and apparel. The “By The Sea” collection stays true to this, offering a subtle reinterpretation of classic SPZL styles. The collection’s footwear centerpiece includes the Moscrop 2 SPZL, Wilsy SPZL, and Samba Deco SPZL sneakers.
The Moscrop 2 SPZL sneaker stands out with its sandy colorway, featuring a combination of Cordura uppers and pigskin suede overlays. This shoe is a fusion of two archival adidas designs—the upper design influenced by the adidas Raider and the rugged sole unit inspired by the Argentinian-made adidas Infinity. The Wilsy SPZL, another favorite, returns in a Chalk White and Tribe Green palette, showcasing nubuck uppers with tonal mesh panels. Completing the trio, the Samba Deco SPZL is updated with rich navy-blue pigskin suede and distinctive Seaweed Green leather Three Stripes.
The apparel segment of the “By The Sea” collection features seven pieces that pay homage to the SPZL classics. The Calavadella Jacket, crafted from recycled polyester in a vibrant Tribe Green, is named after an Ibiza cove, nodding to the music culture that shaped adidas SPZL’s identity. The collection also includes a Track Top and Track Pant in a retro Cardboard brown hue, adorned with tonal Three Stripes and SPZL branding.
Rounding out the apparel offering are two jersey t-shirts and the Meanwood Polo Shirt. The t-shirts feature END. branding on the reverse, a nod to the classic SPZL Wireframe Logo tee designed by Gary Watson, while the Meanwood Polo Shirt integrates tonal Three Stripes and a woven brand patch. The collection is completed with two headwear pieces—a Bucket Hat in Tribe Green and a Cap in Cardboard brown—introducing ‘90s nostalgia into the collaboration.
The END. x adidas SPZL “By The Sea” collection will debuted at END. Newcastle on August 2nd, followed by an online and in-store launch across END.’s locations in London, Manchester, Milan, and Glasgow on August 9th, 2024. Gary Aspden, the curator of adidas SPZL, highlights the importance of collaboration, emphasizing that each project must have a solid foundation of existing relationships.
