Ralph Lauren has unveiled the third and final installment of the Polo Ralph Lauren x Naiomi Glasses Collection, titled Denim Daydream. This launch marks the culmination of the brand’s inaugural Artist in Residence collaboration with Naiomi Glasses, a seventh-generation Diné (Navajo) weaver. The collection embodies Glasses’ deep connection to her cultural heritage, particularly her love for rodeo culture, which plays a significant role in the Navajo way of life. Denim Daydream is a visual ode to this heritage, presented through a palette dominated by denim and indigo hues, reminiscent of the attire worn by Navajo rodeo contestants and the expansive skies of Dinétah, the Navajo Nation.
Naiomi Glasses drew inspiration for this collection from her family’s rich rodeo tradition, which she describes as her “first love.” Rodeo is more than a sport for the Glasses family; it’s a way of life that deeply influenced Naiomi’s artistic journey. She and her brother, Tyler Glasses Jr., first began weaving to create their own saddle blankets, an endeavor that eventually led Naiomi to her current status as a celebrated weaver. The Denim Daydream collection captures the essence of this rodeo-inspired lifestyle, blending traditional Navajo elements with contemporary fashion in a way that honors both the past and present.
The assortment features 27 pieces, including men’s, women’s, and unisex apparel and accessories, each infused with traditional Navajo symbols like four-directional crosses and wedge weave motifs. Among the standout pieces is an indigo-hued jacket inspired by Rodeo trophy jackets, a down vest with roughout suede yokes based on the typical dress of the men in Naiomi’s family, and a silk western shirt with contrast piping, pearlized snaps, and a concho button—a tribute to her family’s ranching heritage. The collection’s use of roughout suede—a fabric that holds nostalgic value for Glasses, recalling the saddle with roughout suede trim from her youth—adds a tactile link to her personal history.
Each drop in the series reflects a different aspect of Glasses’ weaving journey, with Denim Daydream offering a refreshed approach to this collaboration. Shot on the Glasses family lands in Navajo Nation and in studio, the campaign blends Naiomi’s ranching roots with her fashion aspirations, inviting a wider audience to experience and celebrate Navajo culture through the lens of her creative vision.
In addition to the apparel and accessories, Glasses, an avid collector of turquoise and silver, curated a selection of handcrafted jewelry from artisans across Navajo Nation, Hopi Pueblo, San Felipe Pueblo, and Zuni Pueblo. These pieces are showcased throughout the Denim Daydream campaign and are available for purchase online and in select stores. This integration of traditional Navajo jewelry further enriches the collection, adding another layer of cultural significance to the collaboration.
Ralph Lauren’s commitment to expanding its portrayal of America through genuine collaboration is evident in its Artist in Residence program. This initiative, exemplified by the Polo Ralph Lauren x Naiomi Glasses Collection, represents a shift from merely drawing inspiration from heritage communities to actively partnering with them. By focusing on the celebration and preservation of heritage craft, Ralph Lauren is not only honoring the artisans who sustain these traditions but also creating a model for meaningful collaboration in the fashion industry.
