The Courrèges campaign for the FW24 season, under the creative direction of Nicolas Di Felice, shows an evolution of the brand’s modernist geometric codes, brought to life by the lens of photographer and visionary Mark Borthwick. This ongoing collaboration between Di Felice and Borthwick continues to focus on the central concept of the “Carré Magique.” This design motif, rooted in trompe-l’oeil visual trickery, becomes an architectural element within the campaign, forming large cubes on which the models confidently pose.
The set, conceived in partnership with scenography director Rémy Brière, uses minimal yet surreal designs that challenge perception. The structure appears as though it exists in two dimensions within an infinite white space, conjuring a dream-like environment where reality bends. This composition recalls the graphic collages of Courrèges’ Spring Summer 2024 campaign, yet it takes the exploration of geometry even further, transforming shapes and colors into key players within this visual narrative.
The models are a mix of both familiar faces like Loli Bahia and Mona Tougaard, and fresh talents for the brands such as Natasa Vojnovic, Jeanne Cadieu, Ayo Hassan, and Fei Fei Sun. Each shot captures a spontaneous elegance, as they lounge on these monumental cubes with an air of effortless calm. The choice of monochromatic colors – the certainty of red, the clarity of off-white, the rawness of black, and the confidence of navy – adds to the campaign’s powerful simplicity. These tones convey a specific mood and authority, without needing excessive embellishment.
Di Felice and Borthwick, along with the talents of stylist Marie Chaix and casting director Piergiorgio Del Moro, have created a visual language that speaks to the future of fashion. The models’ poses and interactions with the set emphasize the connection between architecture and fashion. Borthwick’s photography captures this sculptural quality in the designs, further emphasized by Joseph Pujalte’s hair styling and Karin Westerlund’s subtle makeup, creating a sense of raw elegance.
