Designer Zhao Huizhou takes inspiration from the Grand Tour, a traditional rite of passage for European aristocrats, and infuses it with the richness of Chinese heritage, drawing from the five-character poems of Tang Dynasty poet Du Fu. The collection highlights a journey through both geography and self-discovery, making a bold statement on modern femininity.
Huizhou’s collection pays tribute to female icons like Sanmao, the celebrated writer and traveler known for her fierce independence, and Wang Xiaomei, an advocate for preserving local artistic traditions. These figures embody the spirit of adventure and resilience that resonates throughout the collection. Through their stories, HUI builds a bridge between past and present, transforming their strength into a narrative thread that guides the collection’s creative vision.

The design elements in “Le Grand Tour” merge Eastern and Western aesthetics. One of the key aspects is the color palette, dominated by deep blues. This shade represents the infinite expanse of the sea and sky, symbolizing wisdom and the boundless journey of women. Blue serves as both a literal and metaphorical canvas, setting the stage for the intricate detailing that follows. From here, the collection bursts with pictorial motifs: sea cliffs, symbolizing power in Chinese culture, and butterfly and peony bouquets, which represent feminine grace and resilience.
The collection also emphasizes the importance of fabric. Silk and cotton, materials known for their softness and comfort, dominate the runway. These fabrics are carefully chosen to drape effortlessly, reflecting the easy elegance of the modern woman while offering practicality and comfort.
One of the most striking features of the collection is the use of the traditional indigo dyeing technique of the Miao people, which infuses the garments with a unique, handcrafted quality. This technique, rooted in ancient Chinese craftsmanship, is a subtle but powerful nod to the brand’s commitment to preserving heritage while pushing the boundaries of modern fashion. The intricate patterns created through this dyeing method bring depth and texture to the pieces, anchoring them in a timeless narrative that speaks of both cultural legacy and contemporary innovation.
