Marc Jacobs has teamed up with legendary graffiti artist Futura for a special-edition capsule collection, celebrating the 40th anniversary of the iconic American fashion brand. This exciting collaboration is part of a year-long series of projects where friends and collaborators of the brand reimagine Marc Jacobs’ signature pieces. Futura’s reimagined designs appear on classic Marc Jacobs staples like The Tote Bag, The Snapshot, unisex denim, hoodies, and a variety of ready-to-wear pieces and accessories. To showcase the collection, Marc Jacobs has launched a global campaign featuring superstar J Balvin, model Paloma Elsesser, and Futura himself, adding a fresh and edgy energy to the brand.
In addition to the capsule collection, exclusive pop-ups are set to launch in major cities including New York, London, Beijing, and Japan this month. These pop-ups will offer fans a chance to experience the collection up close, while also serving as a celebration of both Marc Jacobs’ fashion legacy and Futura’s artistic contributions. To mark the significance of this collaboration, Futura’s largest exhibition to date, FUTURA 2000: BREAKING OUT, is debuting at The Bronx Museum on September 8th, making this a pivotal moment in the artist’s career.
Photographer Renell Medrano captures the bold and dynamic campaign, while stylist Milton Dixon III brings the looks to life with a modern edge. The collaboration, which is the eighth drop in a year-long series of special projects, emphasizes Marc Jacobs’ ability to combine fashion with art, culture, and creativity. Each piece in the collection reflects the fusion of Marc Jacobs’ classic designs with Futura’s street art roots, delivering a collection that feels at once unique and refreshed.
Futura, who first gained fame as a pioneering figure in the 1980s New York graffiti scene, is known for his innovative work within the “Subway School” of street art. His partnership with Marc Jacobs dates back to 2022, when the two joined forces for an activation benefitting Free Arts NYC, an organization focused on empowering underserved youth through art. This ongoing collaboration highlights their shared passion for art and downtown New York’s creative ethos, making the collection not just a celebration of fashion, but also a tribute to the city’s cultural heritage.
The Futura x Marc Jacobs capsule collection features an eclectic range of designs, each showcasing Futura’s iconic aesthetic while staying true to Marc Jacobs’ fashion vision. The combination of street art and high fashion, two elements deeply embedded in New York’s creative scene, results in a collection that feels both approachable and avant-garde. The partnership between Marc Jacobs and Futura promises to resonate well beyond the runway, leaving a lasting impression on both industries.
