Steve Aoki made a striking return to New York Fashion Week for Spring Summer 2025, unveiling the DIM MAK x ONE PIECE collection in collaboration with Toei Animation. The event, held on September 9, 2024, at Artechhouse, commemorated the 25th anniversary of the iconic anime series One Piece. Drawing inspiration from the Egghead arc of One Piece, the collection paid tribute to the vivid world created by Eiichiro Oda. The designs channeled the essence of key characters such as Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat crew, breathing new life into their animated personalities through wearable art. The fusion of high fashion with anime storytelling transported the audience directly into the universe of One Piece.
The collection’s standout pieces were anchored in bold silhouettes and innovative materials, reflecting both Dim Mak’s cutting-edge aesthetic and the adventurous spirit of One Piece. Among the highlights was a bomber jacket, reimagined through the lens of characters like Zoro, Lilith, and GEAR5, along with graphic printed athletic mesh jerseys referencing Bonney, Trafalgar Law, Franky, and York. The closing look – an intricately embroidered jacket for GEAR5 – embodied the dynamism of the anime series, illustrating the blend between anime and high-end design.
In addition to apparel, the collection expanded into accessories, showcasing embroidered six-panel caps, satin trucker hats, and faux fur-lined quilted satin trapper hats, each item echoing the bold themes of One Piece. The introduction of molded silicone boots – designed as a direct nod to the Egghead arc – emphasized the brand’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of both anime-inspired fashion and functional design. Each accessory served as an integral part of the collection’s larger narrative.
The immersive nature of the runway show, complete with vivid imagery and thematic elements from One Piece, blurred the line between fashion presentation and theatrical performance. Every detail, from the color palette inspired by the vibrant Vegapunk Island to the casting of athletes like Noah Lyles and Junelle Bromfield, was curated to merge the world of One Piece with high fashion.
Steve Aoki, a long-time fan of One Piece, expressed his excitement over the collaboration. His vision for this partnership encapsulated his love for fashion, anime, and music, all underpinned by a shared ethos of fearlessness and adventure, much like Luffy’s own journey in the anime.
